3.30am.
best date ever on sunday night :)
being one of a family friend:
"should i come in and ask your mum for permission to take you out to dinner?"
"(inside going aww) nah i told her you're bringing me out."
it was pouring like crazy and he was in the car while i wore my shoes (he was on the dot punctual too!)
"hang on! wait inside, i have an umbrella."
he made sure i was well sheltered so that i didn't get wet, and opened my door for me :*)
dinner was alfresco japanese style tapas, to the sound of pouring rain,
salad with anchovy dressing, garlic friend rice, wagyu tataki (OMG SO YUM!) & salmon sashimi <3
service, food, ambiance - triple kill.
conversation flowed effortlessly with no awkwardness,
we sat there for 3 hours just getting to know each other better :)
and managed to forget our plans to get dessert & coffee somewhere else (so that i can pay, since he secretly got the bill for dinner).
after he dropped me home, we texted for a bit and hopped on to facebook for more talking. haha.
today, i woke up to a text from him and we've been going at it for 12 hours, hands down my longest continuous conversation ever with someone & only stopping for 1.5 hours when i was in the movies.
"i'm bored. entertain me?"
"how can i be of service?"
"tell me a knock knock joke please."
"oh god. are you serious?"
"mmm."
"ok here goes nothing. knock knock."
"who's there?" (at this point i was laughing already because i couldn't believe he was layaning my nonsense. haha).
"doris."
"doris who?"
"doris locked, open up!"
-____-" HAHAHAHA.
looking forward to date #2, you :)
this is going to make leaving so much, much harder than it already is.

the new black.
intelligence is such a turn on.
i recently met a guy who's so smart & full of charisma that even i felt like picking up a copy of wall street journal because he makes it sound so fascinating wtf.
(i actually tried reading it in the hotel lobby but there are just way too many technical terms; not to impress him but what we talked about really was interesting :3)
book smarts are meh and frankly, everyone can be so just by being hardworking.
intelligence (to me anyway) is a combo of book smarts and being aware of what's happening around the world, having an acute perception and an open mind and being able to articulate thoughts without sounding biased or full of shit.
i felt like i learned quite a bit just from our conversation and he makes me wanna know more about him/the world/everything.
...
this could be the end of my habitual interest in bad boys you guys wtf.
i'm not saying bad boys are not intelligent - they are but that's never the reason why i go for them.
mmm intelligence is the black.
and black never goes out of style ;)

KL thus far...
- the freakin' delish local food :3
at the pan mee shop, taking my first spoonful after god knows how long:
B: OHMYGOD MUUUUUUUUM. SO GOOOOD. *moans over and over again*
mum: -__-"
tomorrow on the menu: cheecheongfun! :D
- ...and having veto power over what to have for lunch/dinner/supper >:)
banana leaf rice for lunch,
raku zen for dinner on saturday.
mmm :D
- byebye fitness.
after learning the hard way (hello europe), i vow never to stop exercising for more than a week because honestly, it is so hard to resume once you've stopped for an extended period of time.
i didn't bring my running shoes back to KL though and i know the parentals will never let me run around the neighbourhood in case i get abducted/raped which is totally possible by the way.
it's too bloody hot anyway so that's that.
so yay swimming! :D
- allergies.
everytime i come back, my chronic allergy to dust acts up like crazy from the difference in air quality.
my eyes are teary but dry at the same time, my nose is full of crap (literally) and my throat hurts everyday and all of the symptoms are worsened by airconditioning -__-"
i have a pescription for medical grade eyedrops because those commercial ones have no effect whatsoever -__-"
but i lose them. every. time.
-__-"
- little bruce <3
cuddles,
licking my arm,
and goddamn, those puppy dog eyes...
i love him so much my heart hurts.
- the temperature.
i find myself drinking ice cold drinks and sitting under the fan all the time.
hot gila babi.
- the crazy shit my parents do:
...joining forces to assemble a DIY clothing rack at 2am while i watch on the sidelines (it was hilarious btw). they succeeded!
...talk to little bruce like he's a human, although i'm slightly guilty of that but no matter. ahem.
...play crappy blackberry games until 3am.
and the one that takes the cake:
dad: girl, make yourself free on the weekends. we're having lunch with a friend's friend. he wants to meet you.
...setting me up on a date. gulp.
no pressure B.
i'm trying to weasel my way out of it but we'll see.
all in all, loving KL!
swedish house mafia and my favourite DJ, DJ antoine are gonna here but in flippin' january!
nearly cried when i found out but didn't so i channelled my broken heartedness elsewhere ie twitter, where i tweeted to DJ antoine too many times :P
he replied me once and retweeted me twice ;)
AHHHHHHHHH I LOVE YOU DJ ANTOINE!!!!! *fangirl squeal*
it's 1am, parentals and i are having prawn/salmon/avocado salad while watching some HK drama.
it's so dramatic i tell ya, a lot of kneeling, begging, crying, suicide attempts. jesus.
so happy to be here :)

one year older....
...but not necessarily wiser.
i was in the shower when the clock struck 12am and whilst brushing my teeth, i choked on the gushing water and accidentally swallowed a mouthful of toothpaste.
my digestive tract should be shiny clean with all the triple action...action?
a couple of days ago, i fell pretty hard on my arse leading to formation of bruises that look really nasty on my arse (i kid you not), my ankle, feet and arms.
stairs + alco = no good; when will clubs ever get that? i mean, come on now.
so i should probably start this entry by saying...
on a more serious and reflective note though, this year in its' entirety leading up to my 22nd birthday have been nothing short of amazing.
this year has been a learning curve of massive proportions.
i've done quite a lot of stuff that i'm proud of, some not so much but still, wow.
travelling definitely is the cherry on top and i can say with no doubt that those 2 months were the best days of my life.
there's something about being thrown into a totally unfamiliar territory in a different continent altogether with a bunch of random strangers who become family by the end of it - that forces you to step out of your shell and just live it out.
maybe it's just me but i think it comes off a tiny bit narcissistic to say i learned so much about myself but i did.
the best 2 months of my life would not have materialized at all had i not been ridiculously impulsive and decided "why the hell not?"
i can't say that going to europe has always been my dream or something i've given much thought about because truth be told, i used to be more of a listener when my friends talk about travel.
all it took was just a fleeting moment of unprompted decision making and bam, europe here i come.
inaction is easier than action isn't it?
on my part, making decisions have rarely been a thought governed process and more likely a spontaneous, impulse driven one.
reckless, oh yes but it's so much more exciting ;)
.jpg)
what goes up must come down and if travelling was the highlight of my year, then losing love was my downfall.
we finally called it quits for good after an intense two year relationship.
when things were good, they weren't just good - they were great and at times, i find myself wondering how on earth am i going to find someone else (if shit hits the fan) who complements me this well, ever?
i have never laughed so much or connected with someone on that level before.
we talked about everything and anything under the sun ranging from really stupid but highly entertaining knock knock jokes to religion, cosmology, science, family and studies.
he forces me to see things in a different light but at the same time, he understands where i'm coming from and does the same. it was mutual understanding and respect on such high degree that even i was in awe of.
the other end of the spectrum saw voices being raised, doors being slammed, hurtful things being said and the worst of it all, pride was our kryptonite.
without divulging too much, i guess the break up was inevitable.

despite all that has happened, the good, bad and ugly, this guy is pretty special and i know we'll always have a little place in our hearts for each other :)
life lessons are a bitch but a little birdie once told me, no pain no gain so here's to turning 22 and being one year wiser.

22nd birthday celebration bits & pieces:
- dinner at tom's kitchen; complimentary bottle of wine and brownie :3
- the aviary for drinks (thanks for all the birthday drinks + shots, you guys!)
- met up with people that i hardly see and it was fun hopping from a group of people to another :)
- the bar staff at the aviary severely underestimating my capability for handling and preference for manly drinks.
juls and liwei were at the bar with my redemption coupon for a free drink:
bar staff: what would you like?
girls: can we get something flaming for the birthday girl?
bar staff: nah we don't do that sorta thing. i can make her a cocktail though. a girly drink.
girls: *looks at each other* she is anything but girly...
at the new summer menu launch:
B: hey, can i get a whiskey coke please?
bar staff: *does a double take* whoa really?
B: ???
bar staff: a whiskey coke. for you. really?
- the contiki crew :)
- flowers :) i only like the looks of pink or white flowers and i didn't even tell him about this!
- 3 hours worth of conversation in the car which led lily to say: "what is it with you and midnight chitchats??!" haha.
best night and even better company!
so much love!

hi, my name is brenda and i just turned 22 but my clumsiness and lack of motor control rival that of a 3 year old.

eurotrippin': athens.
athens; one of the world's oldest cities is the birthplace of democracy, the olympic games and philosophers plato & socrates is saturated with history.
personally, i find greece/greek language amazing because so many of it are still being practiced.
i've grown to recognize greek alphabets from all the science units i did in uni - gamma rays, psi and phi protein confirmations, delta for differentiation, chi to calculate some microbiology stuff, kappa light chain in an antibody and the usual suspects, alpha beta, theta, rho, pi, lambda...
even words like achilles heel; did you know that achilles was a greek hero who was all mighty and strong except for his heel? hence the meaning of the phrase! :D
and ancient greek mythology, ohmygod i spent two hour reading about titans and olympians, athena, zeus, perseus and the whole gang. really cool stuff.
AND THE FOOD. oh my word.
i've never liked creamy, cheesy, milky kind of food; i am however, a big fan of the mediterranean diet so lots of olive oil, olives, herbs and grilled meat.
simple, light and healthy and doesn't induce food comatose.
not surprisingly, greece was the country that i was most excited for and it was also why juliana and i changed our minds about which tour to go with.
we were at the agent's office ready to put down a deposit for a the tour we decided on previously which doesn't cover greece and spain (jul's pick) but after mulling it over again, we just couldn't pass up the chance to see our favourite cities.
from a 25 day tour, we decided to go big or go home with a 37 day one which is the longest concept tour (hotels + hostels).
no regrets because athens and barcelona are definitely worth seeing :)
from rome, we took an overnight ferry to athens and it was one of the rare times our passports got checked!
but even then, passport control was literally holding it up at the photo page while walking pass the metal detector -__-" not very fussy about terrorism these greeks.
anyway, we initially got seats instead of cabins but hannah flashed her tits a little and agreed to go on a date with the guy in charge and in that, we all got upgraded to bunk beds. haha.
gotta use whatcha got to get whatcha want ;) best tour manager ever.

diego!

yassou athens!

crossing the adriatic ocean.

chronic case of boat hair.
we didn't do much on the cruise. bridget, lisa, diluz, nuno, hannah and i (plus some others i don't remember) just sat on the deck talking, laughing and drank beer until dinner time.
the drinking doesn't stop even though we were on sea ;) tsktsk.
when we got to land the next morning, we got back on the bus, drove around town and went to see the acropolis of athens, one of my favourite tours of the entire trip.
that is saying a lot because we had a looooooooot of those in 37 days.
the acropolis of athens is a unesco world heritage site that houses the remains of several ancient buildings and the most famous is undoubtedly the parthenon.
our tour guide was pretty eccentric and fittingly, very philosophical when he spoke and extremely proud and passionate about his country.
that was the only tour so captivating that i found myself listening to every word he said the entire time, it was amazing and very eye opening.
he didn't just ramble on and on about the history about the acropolis, he emphasized that knowledge is power and knowledge was what led to the amazing architecture and beauty of the whole city.
getting up was a bit of a hike uphill and because some parts of the ground was made from marble, it was really slippery and it took intense concentration to not lose balance and plunge to my death.
that, and clutching ben's arm while i wobble my way down.
athens, in general is primarily of mountaineous terrains for it was built on hills.
even getting around town, there were a lot of stairs and uphill hikes.
we didn't get to spend a whole heap of time there which was a pity.
i spent a fair bit just looking at the city skyline from different spots, haha.

white buildings are distinct of greece.

so gorgeous.

see, hiking wtf.

the parthenon undergoing reconstruction when we were there so some areas were cordoned off.
it used to be a temple to dedicated to the goddess athena and until today, is regarded as a symbol of ancient greece and democracy.

the erechtheion, a temple dedicated to greek hero erichthonius.

the porch of caryatids on the north side of the erechtheion.
a vomit load of scenery photos:

i felt tiny just looking out at the cityscape.

with the usual suspects.
after the tour, we got ice slushies and headed back to the hotel to wash up for a plaka dinner.
the hotel was alright but the elevators are the ancient swing door kind and they're so small it's ridiculous.
there were 50 of us and our rooms were all on the 5th floor onwards and using the lift to get up was out of the question because it would take 2 hours if we all did that.
we established a system where by one person would take the lift with 4 other suitcases because that was all that could fit -__-"
the rest would just take the stairs up and as murphy's law would have it, one floor = 3 flights of stairs.

the only photo i have of dinner. haha.
we had bread as usual, grilled haloumi (yuck), greek salad, souvlaki, tzatziki and icecream :D so yummers zomg.

and a traditional dance demo that i got roped into -________-"
when the guy tapped me on the shoulder to ask me dance, i squeaked out loud and turned away hoping he'll pick someone else but noooo he HAD to drag me out.
the restaurant was tiny as it is and the paths are so narrow, that dancing really just meant holding hands and throwing it up when required and going around in circles.
t'was fun, i got to hold hands with a cute guy :D haha.
after dinner, we went back to the hotel and braced ourselves for the earliest morning call EVER at 5am, meaning we had to get up at about 4ish -__-"
next up, one of the two cities that i've had the best time of my life.
oh mykonos, i cannot wait to tell stories about you.
xx
